I hope everyone is enjoying the summer and making full use of the club – both on and off the courts!  The weather has been getting nicer and not too soon as our final Twilight Thursday event is coming up on August 16th, hosted by the 4.0 Ladies USTA team.  It promises to be a great night out so be sure to sign up on the board or directly with Lona or Steve.

Just a reminder, our fantastic director of tennis and club pro, Pablo Alvarado, has a full slate of Adult, Junior, and Youth tennis programs in full swing.  If you or your child are looking to improve your game be sure to reach out to Pablo via the club website.

Finally, and certainly a bit of sad news, long-time member Marv Charney unfortunately fell while playing tennis this past week and broke his leg.  Please join me in wishing Marv a speedy recovery.

See you at the club!

Reminders:
  1. Adults have court priority on courts 1-3, 6&7 at all times.
  2. Please sign in all swim, barbecue, and tennis guests at arrival.  The same guest is permitted at the club twice in a month unless visiting from out of town.
  3. Please put towels in the towel bin prior to leaving the club.  Also, we appreciate the return of any towels which may have ended up in your tennis bag:-)

Summer is flying by – August is here already!  Hope you’re all enjoying the nice weather and longer daylight hours.

Twilight Tennis is our featured event of the month - Thursday, August 16th at 5 pm.  This will be the last Twilight of the season, so make it a priority.  The well-prepared Women’s 4.0 team will be our sponsor.  Their theme is “Hot August Nights” – you can rock your hot rod and classic car attire.  Please sign up early either on the sheet posted at the club, or by email to Lona.  Drinks, Main Course and Dessert will be provided by the Club.  Please bring a salad, side dish, or appetizer to share with 10 persons.  $20/family or $7/person if you sign up in advance.  Or, $10/each at the door.

NEXT UP: Calcutta is just around the corner.  The Tennis and Social Committees would like to personally invite all members to the upcoming Calcutta Tournament weekend on September 7-9th.  The Calcutta is one of the most popular events at PTC.  Teams composed of varying USTA-rated members battle in their tournament brackets to win a lump sum of cash (and a year of bragging rights).  The sign-up sheet is already posted, so please sign up early.

In addition to the great tennis, plan on attending the Calcutta Dinner & Team Draw on Friday September 7th at 6:30pm - you'll be in for a great night of camaraderie and laughter.  After cocktails and dinner, we will select both the Men's & Women's teams, with team captains literally pulling names out of "special" cups.  Once the teams are completed, the wagering begins to predict the eventual winners.  This is an adult-oriented event and is open to members regardless of whether they are playing in the tournament.  Please sign up on the bulletin board or reply to this e-mail.
  • Friday, September 7th – 6:30pm Calcutta Dinner, Team Selection & Betting.
  • Saturday, September 8th – 8:30am Men’s Calcutta (Format to be determined based on number of sign ups).
  • Sunday, September 9th – 8:30am Women’s Calcutta (Format to be determined based on number of sign ups).
USTA NEWS: PTC is fielding several teams in USTA league play at the moment.  In the 55+ group, we have Women’s 7.0 and 8.0, and Men’s 8.0 and 9.0.  And in the 18+ Mixed, we have teams playing at 6.0, 7.0 and 8.0.  Play well and good luck.

It's been a great summer of Twilight Tennis thanks to the Men's 4.0 Team, Women's 3.5 Team and the Women's 4.0 team.  The last Twilight of the season will be Thursday, Aug. 16th. lead by Captain, Linda Nagare.  Together with her team, they will host a 'Hot Rod' car theme event.  Drive-In to the Fun!

The USTA 3.5 Women's team lead by captain Sheila Druskin rallied her playoff teammates for the "Mama Mia" themed event in July.  Special Thanks goes to Kerry Maher, Carey Welsh, Kristen Pierce, Mary Eliason, Lisa Rosenthal, Val March, Jennifer Salma, and Devi Ananda.  If you missed it, they provided a wonderful spread of Greek food with Sangria flowing throughout.  Thanks to chef Jeff Tsu for providing a great BBQ and to Jeff Tateosian at the turntable playing all things ABBA.  Kim Cresi provided a special touch by providing delicious baklava as well.  Thanks to my teammates who demonstrate the ability to work with ease & win together.  Fabulous work ladies!

Speaking of Fun and Fabulous, thanks to Anthony Paz who provided the wooden rackets for this year's "Woods & Whites," which helped transform PTC into our own version of Wimbledon.  With everyone wearing their crispest whites, our Pro, Pablo helped set up a round robin series of play.  Special thanks to Maggie Blumberg, Lisa Rosenthal, Erica Riley, Marisa Wachhorst, Nancy Chew, Daisy Kwan, Sonya, Shawna Krasts, Steve Brooks, Loel and Lona Means for their help in making it into a fun-filled day.
