President's MessagePeter Stevenson
Hello all.  Great to see so many club members enjoying the day at the recent 2018 Spring Fling event.  Special thanks again to our Social and Tennis committees for all of their efforts in putting on such a fantastic event - truly a great start to our season of club sponsored tournaments and social events.  We had a nice group for the first "TGIF" of the year last Friday.  The next event is our inaugural Spring Women's Doubles Tournament on Friday, May 11th, followed by our 3rd annual Pizza and Pro's event on May 19th.  May is shaping up to be a fun-filled month with something for everyone.  Looking forward to seeing everyone out on the courts!

A special shout out to Pablo Alvarado, our Director of Tennis, for all of the wonderful Adult and Youth tennis programs (instruction, clinics, drop-ins, camps, etc...) that he's launched here at the club.  If you want to learn more be sure to check out details under the Tennis Pro tab on our club website, reach out to Pablo directly at info@coachpabloalvarado.com or send a note to Lona at peninsulatennisclub@gmail.com.

As we approach the summer months I wanted to take a moment to remind all members and their families the importance of knowing, following and supporting our published club rules.  These have been developed and refined over many years in order to reflect the collective expectation we all have for a safe, respectful and enjoyable environment here at the PTC.  Whether it is on the courts, in the pool or anywhere on the PTC grounds it is vital that everyone, including guests, please follow these rules.  If you are not aware of the PTC club rules you can find them on our club website.  I encourage all members to take the time to read through them again.

Looking forward to seeing everyone at the club and out on the courts.

Please join me in thanking Phil Zlatunich for researching and assembling the new ball machine enclosure.  He spent the better part of a weekend on the project and we really appreciate his effort.

It's time to register teams for the next USTA Mixed 18+ and 55+ Adult league play which runs from June through September.  Please let me know if you would be interested in captaining a team next season.  The deadline to register a team is May 21st.

The pool is officially open and I would like to highlight a few pool/spa rules:
  1. Youths 10 and under require parental supervision at all times, with or without a life guard on duty.
  2. Youths 5-14 may use the spa with direct adult supervision.  Adults have priority at all times; children should vacate the spa with a request from an adult.
  3. Youths under 5 may not use the spa at any time.  It is unsafe for children to be in temperatures above 102 degrees.
  4. No glass is allowed around the pool/spa areas.
  5. The pool/spa area closes at 9:00pm.
  6. The club is a quiet zone after 10:00pm, no music, loud talking, etc...
Happy Summer!

The Spring Fling was a ton of fun on April 14th.  With six teams of eight mixed players, we had a good representation of our club out playing that day.  From the Tennis Committee side, special thanks to Nancy Batchelor and her crew of Jeff Schubiner, Peter Stevenson, Steve Brooks and Mark Showen.

May Events:  Our first TGIF of the season is on Friday, May 4th.  On Friday, May 11th, we’re initiating a new event - the Friday Women’s Doubles tournament, followed by lunch.  Brackets are full as we go to print, as we’ve had a great response.  Finally, Pizza and Pro’s returns to PTC on Saturday, May 19th.

And a heads-up - the van Dillen Men’s Doubles Championship is right around the corner on the weekend of June 9th and 10th.  There will be a Cocktail Party on Saturday evening, following the play.  Start lining up your partners.  Get these great events on your calendar.

On the USTA front, the upcoming season begins in June.  We have teams forming for Mixed 18+ 6.0, Men's 55+ 9.0, Women's 55+ 7.0, and Women's 55+ 8.0.  This is a great way to represent your club.  Don’t miss out.

I’m always open to your input, so please contact me at the club or via email at brwelsh6679@gmail.com.

It was a fun day on the PTC courts for our Spring Fling/Spring Clean Mixer.  Who would have guessed it would end in a tie for First Place with the 'Sweepers' and the 'Recyclers'.  Congratulations Winners.

The Sweepers consisted of: Anthony Paz, Molly Dillon, Jeff Eliason, Tery Zlatunich, Brian Wachhorst. and me (yellow team).  The Recyclers included: John Kohli, Teddy Bernardo, Adrienne Schubiner, Marian Stein, Gene Trainor, Jennifer Ellison (green team).

This event had many helpers and was a lot of fun to plan.  First, I want to thank and acknowledge Beth Cody for her creative & artistic talents.  She helped design the spring clean props, prepared signs, and decorated the club room.  She embraced the theme and had so much enthusiasm it was very fun working together.

Big Thanks also goes to Lona Means, Loel, Tony, Sheila Druskin, Nancy Batchelor, Valerie March, Marion Stein, Marissa Hauselt, Joan Holland, and Kathy Kelloff.  The behind the scene workers helped in the kitchen, with decorations, and the set up/take down.  Did you try the Bourbon Lemonade?  That was made by our own mixologist, Denee Berliner, who also shared her lovely flowers from her garden.

We can't forget the raffle prizes.  Thanks to the wonderful and generous donations from Kent Dorwin for the $100.00 Amazon Gift cards and Anthony Paz for tennis caps and gear from his 'Tennis Station' store.

Also, thank you to our bakers: Nancy Chew, Lexi Slavet & her children, Maggie Blumberg, and Sheila Druskin.  Their baked goods were raffled off for fun.

Additional thank you's go to: Joe Feeney, Steve Brooks, Lily Crawford, Daisy Kwan for their help with the party planning, David Kwan for watching my kids while I spent the day at PTC playing & coordinating this event (yes, a shout out to Dad).  Last but not least, I would like to mention hubby, David Crawford, for his support (and patience) as I take on the Social Committee role.

So you see, it's a PTC family affair - so many people helped to make this special.  The feedback was that everyone had a terrific time.  I truly appreciate all your support and help.  Looking forward to the next event - the "It's Our Time" Women's Doubles Tournament on May 11th.  It is a wonderful kick off to the Mother's Day weekend.

Feel free to contact me if you have any suggestions, creative themes or want to come be a part of the fun.  Akwan10leap@gmail.com is the best way to reach me.  Hope to hear from you soon.  See you on the courts.

Play Nice, Be Fierce, Have Fun!
