President's MessagePeter Stevenson
March is here and with that comes the promise of longer days.  Whether it is with one of our many teams playing in the USTA circuit, our full slate of social and competitive club events, tennis instruction with our new Director of Tennis (Pablo), or the "organic" demand of weekly tennis matches, we have many opportunities to get out there on the courts.

Aside from our collective "love" for the game of tennis - one of the great aspects to the PTC is the culture of community we've built and how the club really represents an extension of each of our homes and lives.  Whether it is an opportunity to meet with friends in the clubhouse, enjoy a BBQ on the patio area with family, get in a quick workout in the gym, or simply take a soak in the spa, the club represents so much more to all of us than just our time on the courts.  I hope you all are enjoying the many aspects our club has to offer and, at the same time, cherishing and protecting the fabulous culture we've built here at the PTC.

The Tennis Committee is forming, and we are looking for members who are interested in leading the planning and operation of one of our key events.  If you (and one or two of your best friends) are interested in planning one of the Club’s premier Men’s, Women’s, or Team event, let’s talk about it.  We would also welcome members who may want to play a “game-day” role.  Please contact me if interested.

UPDATE YOUR CALENDAR: The Spring Fling Mixer is coming up on Saturday, April 14th.  Watch for sign-ups around mid-March.  Friday May 4th is our first TGIF of the season.  Let’s get this year started right.

It is almost spring and we are doing a lot of work behind the scenes to get ready for some great weather.  We are almost done with all of the punch list items for the clubhouse remodel.  There are just a couple of things left to take care of.  We are also working on some long-term budgeting for major improvements like court resurfacing.  In the short term, we are working on pricing and details for adding two security cameras to cover the front door of the club and the back gate to Chatham Road.  We will also be replacing the windscreens on the north side of Courts 1-3.  They are old and weathered and need to be replaced.  If you have ideas for improvements to the club or things that need attention, please feel free to email myself or Lona.  Happy spring.

Happy 85th Anniversary PTC!  There's much to celebrate.  Whether this is your first year as a member or if you have been a member for over 30 years, you might agree what a special gem we have here.  It is a place to come with our families, and a place to come play amazing tennis with friends.  One thing's for sure – we all come together for the love of the sport.  Let’s call it our secret fountain of youth.

I'm excited to be a part of the PTC Social Committee.  If you have not had a chance to glance at the “Calendar of Events for 2018,” please do and save some dates.  The year will be filled with a lot of fun and excitement.  Coming up first is our annual Spring Fling Mixer.  Our theme this year is Spring Clean, and will take place on Saturday, April 14th.  Clear the closets and prepare to 'sweep' in our mixed doubles “all-level event.”  Please remember to sign up so we can plan for all the goodies, food, and raffles prizes.

I'm seeking spirited volunteers from youths to seniors to help be a part of the process.  Your participation is all about having fun and bringing more members together.  If you would like to join our committee, please contact me at akwan10leap@gmail.com or call (650) 888-2557.

Last month, we had a well attended Super Bowl party at the club.  It was an exciting game which kept most there till the end.  Congratulations to all our winners in the various football pools & proposition contests put on by Jeff Tateosian.  Thank you to Sheila Druskin for organizing the event - her final as Social Director for 2017.  Congratulations also goes to Mary Eliason for winning this year's Chili Cook- Off.

This is just the start to a wonderful year of activities.  I look forward to seeing you out on the courts.  Play nice, Be Fierce, Have Fun!
